MECHANIC TRAINEE
$19.03/Hour (Night Shift)
Essential job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Repair and maintain CNG and gasoline powered buses and other transportation equipment. Steam clean equipment, perform preventive maintenance, assist in the repair of equipment, mount and dismount tires, adjust brakes, install batteries, tires and wiring, grease and service equipment, change oil and oil filters, service and perform simple heavy duty repair work.
Minimum qualifications are any combination equivalent to completion of the 12th grade and one year of increasingly responsible experience in general mechanical or transportation fleet repair work. Graduation from a vocational technical college preferred. Knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines, of the methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of motorized equipment; of safe driving practices; ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work, to use shop equipment and tools, to make necessary repairs, to keep required records and to work cooperatively with others. Must possess a valid Class C California driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the District’s insurance underwriter. Ability to obtain and maintain a Class B driver license, TIA Tire Certification, CNG Tank Certification, Type II Refrigeration License, Forklift Operators Permit, reading, math and written language skills to perform the essential functions of the job.
