Welcome to GET’s web site!
As an organization, GET has remained true to its core values and mission: to consistently provide safe, accessible, reliable, and affordable public transportation to diverse customers in the Greater Bakersfield area.
GET is one of our community’s most valuable resources. It plays a vital role in the lives of thousands of people every day.
But our community is growing rapidly! The Bakersfield metro area population has grown more that 30 percent in the past eight years and over the next 25 years it will double. That’s a lot of people to move around and GET must be positioned to provide people with an attractive alternative to driving their car both as a way to decrease congestion and to alleviate air pollution.
Our goal is to provide service that has outstanding quality and value. A good public transit system can attract businesses, create new jobs and provide a better quality of life for those in the community who want to remain independent. Consider all the people who have to rely on friends, family and neighbors for transportation to the grocery store or medical appointments - with an efficient transit system in place, these people have the ability to be mobile.
This year, GET is embarking on a study of its system in partnership with the Kern Council of Governments. Using this study, GET will be analyzing the entire system over the next year to determine how to best serve a growing community.
This will almost certainly include increasing service in some areas, but will probably include some reduction of services in areas where ridership has not grown. While we would like to be able to serve everyone, the reality is that we have limited resources and while we hope to increase our fleet in the next year, our service is constrained by budgets.
Although I have only been here a short time, I am very excited about GET’s future. I hope that my 30 years experience will allow me to develop an organization that not only meets the expectations of our customers, but exceeds them!
