Rules for Riding GET-A-Lift

  1. All passengers must use seatbelts and any other appropriate securment devices at all times.
  2. All passengers must have exact fare of $1.00 or a GAL punch pass for a one-way trip. A GAL punch pass can be purchased for $10 and is good for 10 rides.
  3. GAL cannot operate outside the GET District boundaries.
  4. GAL is a curb-to-curb service, not a door-to-door service. This means the driver will not get out of the vehicle and go to your door to let you know he has arrived, so, please be prepared and waiting at your scheduled pick up time. This will help both you and the driver.
  5. Be ready to board the vehicle at your scheduled pick-up time. You must board the vehicle within 5 minutes of its arrival so that drivers can maintain the schedule
  6. Appointments can be made up to 2 weeks in advance. The exact pick-up location and times must be given.
  7. You may bring a companion with you on a space-available basis only. Companions must pay the one-way fare, $1 for each trip. Be sure to tell the reservationist if you wish to bring a companion.
  8. Attendants are permitted to ride free if you are required to travel with one. Drivers are not allowed to act as attendants. If you feel that you no longer need an attendant, have your physician contact GET.
  9. The number of packages you are allowed to bring on board is limited to the number you can hold by yourself or with the help of your companion. Packages may not block the walkway. Drivers are not allowed to help carry packages to or from the van.
  10. If you cannot make a scheduled trip you must CALL and CANCEL at least one hour before your pick-up. Failure to do so will result in the automatic cancellation of any return trip. If the vehicle is running late and you can no longer wait, PLEASE CALL and indicate whether the return trip will be cancelled. If an appointment takes longer than expected, you must notify GAL as soon as possible then, when you are ready for pick-up you must call again. However, due to the nature of GAL's prescheduled trip operation, the desired pick-up time cannot be guaranteed.
  11. If your desired appointment time is not available, GET may schedule your trip up to 1 hour before or 1 hour after your requested time of travel.
  12. Vehicles may arrive up to 20 minutes before and 20 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time. This does not apply to trips you are unable to leave early, such as work or school.
  13. All permanent applications must be renewed every two years. If you are registered as a temporary rider and feel that you will need the service after your application expires you may reapply at that time.
