Golden Empire Transit District is looking for customer-oriented people to drive a bus in scheduled passenger service in the metro Bakersfield area.

Examples of Duties – Operate a bus in transit service in a safe manner; greet customers; collect fares; provide information; inspect vehicle and report safety or mechanical defects aboard vehicle.

Local public transit driving experience is highly desirable.

Salary and Benefits - $12.58/hr. after training. Medical benefits provided. Employees are eligible for paid time off

Knowledge and Ability - As a pre-requisite, applicants will be required to take the American Public Transportation Association’s Bus Operator Selection Survey.

Ability to deal with all kinds of people in a positive and pleasant manner; read time-tables, maps and other written instructions; write brief reports; handle fares and cash; work varied and unusual hours and days including weekends, holidays and any shift assigned; drive at night; converse with the public effectively; familiarity with metro Bakersfield area; ability to obtain and maintain a Class B license with passenger endorsement.

Minimum Qualifications – A current Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) printout must be submitted with the completed application.

Other Requirements – Post-offer physical and drug screen required; successful candidates will be required to undergo a Department of Justice investigation.
