Evening Shift - 10:00 pm until 6:30 am

Essential job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintenance and overhaul of diesel, gasoline and alternate fuel motorized equipment. Performs complex mechanical repairs on motorized equipment, troubleshoots and repairs various systems and subsystems on motorized equipment; assists in overhaul of engines, transmissions and differentials; overhauls and installs brakes, brake components and related accessories; tunes small displacement spark ignition motorized equipment; performs PM inspections; start up buses daily to ensure good running condition prior to vehicle’s use in service.

Minimum qualifications include but are not limited to: Any combination equivalent to completion of the 12th grade and four years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation fleet maintenance, including experience in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered equipment. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, adjustment and repair of automotive equipment; knowledge of principles and methods used in a program of preventive maintenance for fleet equipment; knowledge of safe driving practices; ability to inspect, locate and diagnose mechanical defects; ability to estimate the cost of repairs; ability to order supplies and equipment; ability to use tools and equipment necessary in the repair and maintenance of fleet equipment; ability to perform preventive maintenance; ability to keep records; ability to operate a bus; ability to exercise good judgment and extreme caution. Applicant must possess a valid Class C California driver's license and driving record acceptable to the District's insurance underwriter; ability to obtain a Class B driver's license. Ability to obtain the certificate to operate a forklift. Possess and maintain a valid Type II or higher Refrigeration Technician’s Certificate in accordance with current EPA regulations.

Pre-placement physical and drug screen required. The successful candidate will also be required to undergo a Department of Justice background investigation.
