GET – Coronavirus, Committed to Keeping Riders Healthy

Bakersfield, CA – Golden Empire Transit (GET) is committed to keeping riders and drivers healthy and safe this spring as concerns of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) moves through our country.

Golden Empire Transit (GET) has stepped up daily cleaning efforts using a high-grade disinfectant and multi-purpose cleaners.

GET would like to remind riders of a few simple preventative measures:

  •  Wash your hands before and after using public transit. If fresh running water and soap are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content
  • Sneeze or cough into a tissue, discard the tissue as soon as possible and wash your hands.
  • Stay home if you are feeling under the weather — even if it’s “just” a sore throat.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces.

GET wants you to know that you can continue to rely on us to get you where you are going. GET takes our employees and riders safety serious, and will take all necessary precautions to keep you safe. “The safety of our customers and employees is our first priority as we continue to monitor the coronavirus,” said Karen King, the CEO of Golden Empire Transit. “GET is enhancing its cleaning regimen across all our buses, vehicles and Transit Centers to ensure the system is safe for everyone.” Taking personal precautions is the best way to avoid getting sick.

GET was formed in July 1973 and is the primary public transportation provider for the Bakersfield Urbanized Area. It is the largest public transit system within a 110-mile radius. The District’s legal boundary includes Bakersfield city limits as well as adjacent unincorporated areas. GET has a fleet of 88 compressed natural gas buses equipped with wheelchair lifts and bike racks. GET serves 16 routes, operating 7 days a week and transporting more than 6 million passengers each year with its fixed-route buses. In addition, GET operates 25 compressed natural gas GET-A-Lift buses and 7 microtransit RYDE shuttles. For more information, visit www.getbus.org or call 869.2GET (2438).
