DISPATCHER

Pay Range:  $16.00 – $26.00 per hour

(Maximum entry-level salary is $21.00 per hour)

GET is currently seeking a Dispatcher to join our team!

Under direct supervision, the Dispatcher performs the day-to-day dispatching activities for the District’s Fixed-Route and On-Demand services in support of safe, efficient, and reliable operations. The incumbent in this position is responsible for routing vehicles, scheduling operators, and maintaining communications with operators and third-parties with relation to transit emergencies, services, and dispatching information.

What you will do:

  • Creates and monitors daily service schedules for Fixed-Route and On-Demand services, promptly making modifications if necessary in response to emergency situations for optimal service.
  • Provides clear and accurate dispatching and route services to the District’s operators.
  • Directs and monitors the completion of driver assignments.
  • Timely dispatches vehicles/operators for fixed-route and On-Demand services in accordance with appropriate schedules to ensure expeditious service.
  • Utilizes radio console and/or hand-held radio to receive messages and relay information to mobile field staff, drivers, and supervisors, including to communicate alternative route/detour information.
  • Provides prompt emergency assistance to operators in the event of traffic accidents, route detours, and disabled vehicle situations, contacting emergency first responders for matters needing intervention.
  • Assists callers with inquiries concerning Fixed-Route and On-Demand services, areas of service, schedules, and fares/pricing, transferring appropriate calls to the Customer Service Representatives relating to reservations for specialized on-demand transportation programs.
  • Acts as backup and partners with Customer Service Representative’s as needed to resolve service-related inquiries from customers.
  • Provides backup assistance to the Lead Dispatcher and Transportation Supervisor in emergency situations, including evenings, weekends, or holidays and whenever necessary to support business operations.
  • Accurately updates and maintains computer files and transit dispatch database for timekeeping, payroll, and other District requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

How you will shine:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by specialized training in communications or a related field.
  • One (1) – three (3) years of responsible communications, dispatch and/or clerical experience (preferably in a call-center environment).
  • A valid California Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the District’s insurance underwriter (a valid Class A/B California Driver’s License is preferred).
  • English/Spanish bilingual is preferred (speaking, reading, and writing skills).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the District’s service areas and routes by keeping abreast street and landmark locations and the applicable general geography for operations.
  • Exercises knowledge of transit operation principles and effective customer service techniques.
  • Ability to provide effective dispatching services to operators and use good judgment in making decisions in emergency situations.
