GET is currently seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our team!

Under general direction, the Purchasing Agent is responsible for the processing of procurement requisitions, analyzing costs, issuing purchase orders and contracts; as well as sourcing materials and services while conducting formal and informal procurements. The Purchasing Agent will have the responsibility to ensure compliance with the provisions of applicable Federal, State and the Federal Transit Administration guidelines for purchasing goods and services including acting as a communication liaison between vendors and management to facilitate bidding and compliance requirements.

What you will do:
• Purchase and maintain a variety of inventory items (including vehicle parts) using cost analysis and negotiations to secure the best price.
• Soliciting and awarding informal bids or quotes.
• Serve as a communication liaison between vendors and management; researching such items as status of competition, technological developments, labor cost changes or changes in prices structure or delivery method.
• Handle all District purchasing contracts by obtaining formal proposals, bids and quotations, and ensure that all required terms and conditions, contractual provisions and clauses are included in the procurement.
• Supervise warranty claims.
• Regularly communicate with vendors to coordinate purchases, deliveries, and resolve disputes.
• Prepares and maintains official procurement documentation files for official public record and audit purposes.
• Reviews and evaluates bid / proposals, prepares Board agenda items, provides procurement information, and makes recommendations for awards.
• Assist Maintenance Manager with budget preparations.
• Assist other department managers in the development of bid specifications and purchasing policies and procedures.

How you will shine:
• High School Diploma or GED- Graduation from a vocational technical college is preferred
• Two years (2) of experience in purchasing activities and knowledge of administrative purchasing contracts
• A Certificate related to acquisitions such as a Certified Purchasing Manager or Certified Public Purchasing Officer from a nationally recognized organization is desired.
• Requisite reading, mathematical, written language and verbal skills in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Knowledge of current acceptable purchasing procedures and computerized purchasing systems.
• Knowledge of vehicle parts, parts room procedures and inventory control methods.
• Must have excellent written and verbal skills.
• Solid computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Understanding of Federal contracting policies and procedures.
• Contract management experience including addressing vendor issues.
• Possess a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License and driving record acceptable to the District’s insurance underwriter.
