Under the general direction of the Director of Maintenance, the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor oversees vehicle and equipment maintenance by directing activities of maintenance employees to ensure the cleanliness and safety of vehicles in accordance with all Federal, State and Local laws. The incumbent in this role occasionally works hands on with employees engaged in the repair, maintenance, and servicing of vehicles or equipment. The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor informs employees of the District’s policies and procedures and assures compliance.

What you will do:

  • Supervise repair, service, cleaning and maintenance of District’s motorized equipment.
  • Assist in planning and assigning all work performed by maintenance employees.
  • Supervise and coordinate all vehicle repair and CNG station work performed by outside contractors.
  • Purchase supplies and services, utilizing the computer system.
  • Assist Director of Maintenance with budget preparation.
  • Handle radio communications and coordinate road calls.
  • Must be willing to meet the needs of the District in a 24/7 environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

How you will shine:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Graduation from a vocational technical college is preferred.
  • Experience with commercial vehicle fleet maintenance and repair.
  • A minimum of two years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrate an ability to diagnose basic defects in electrical, air conditioning, engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and chassis systems.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance shop operations, including knowledge of: parts, materials, heavy duty vehicle repairs, preventative maintenance programs, tools and equipment used in the repair of motorized equipment and vehicles.
  • Must be able to obtain ASE Transit Bus Air Brake and Preventative Maintenance Certification within six months of hire date.
  • Must be able to obtain TIA Tire Certification within six months of hire date.
  • Must be able to obtain Forklift Permit within six months of hire date.
  • Demonstrate an ability to obtain and maintain a Class B California Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and passenger endorsements.
  • Possess a valid California Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the District’s insurance
