UPDATE AUGUST 2023: Passes for the 23/24 school year are on their way.  Students may continue using their old passes until the new ones are distributed by Bakersfield schools.  Distribution is anticipated to take place in September or October 2023. Students: Present your pass from the spring semester to the driver when boarding along with your student ID.

Golden Empire Transit District received a grant to provide FREE bus rides to all students Kindergarten through College including vocational and private schools in the Bakersfield Metro area. Students can use GET's service to get to and from school, work, the mall, a friend's house, anywhere a bus can take you!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students can pick up their free pass at their school administrative office during the 23/24 school year.  Students 7th grade and older must show their student ID on the bus to the driver when presenting the pass.  The pass will swipe in the fare box like a regular bus pass. The pass does not need to be used only for school, and can be used for any activity.

WHO CAN USE IT?

Any student that attends a school in the Bakersfield area.  Your school must have agreed to participate in the program to receive passes.

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

UPDATE: Passes are useable through May 2024!  Continue to use your passes that you recieved the previous year, or pick up one from your school office.

WHERE DO WE GET A PASS?

You can pick a pass up at your school office.  GET will not be distributing passes to parents and students.

WHAT IF I LOSE MY PASS? CAN I GET ANOTHER ONE?

If your pass is damaged and can't be used in the fare box,  you can turn it in for a replacement pass at your school's admin office. If you lose your pass ask your school admin's office for a replacement.  Treat your card like cash and keep it in a safe place when not in use.

I DON'T HAVE A STUDENT ID.

All students 7th grade and older must present a student ID to the driver in order to use the student pass.  If you do not have a student photo ID, you can get one taken at our offices at 1830 Golden State Ave., or at our Downtown Transit Center on Chester Ave.  You will need to bring proof of enrollment in the Spring Semester or Quarter, like your school schedule.
