FREE BUS RIDES FOR K-COLLEGE STUDENTS

Golden Empire Transit District received a grant to provide FREE bus rides to all students Kindergarten through College including vocational and private schools in the Bakersfield Metro area. Students can use GET's service to get to and from school, work, the mall, a friend's house, anywhere a bus can take you!

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students can pick up their free pass at their school administrative office starting January 2023.  Students 7th grade and older must show their student ID on the bus to the driver when presenting the pass.  The pass will swipe in the fare box like a regular bus pass. The pass does not need to be used only for school, and can be used for any activity.

WHO CAN USE IT?

Any student that attends a school in the Bakersfield area.  Your school must have agreed to participate in the program to receive passes.

HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

Passes will be active during January 2023 to the end of May 2023.  The program will possibly return for the fall semester.

WHERE DO WE GET A PASS?

You can pick a pass up at your school office starting in January 2023.  GET will not be distributing passes to parents and students.

WHAT IF I LOSE MY PASS? CAN I GET ANOTHER ONE?

If your pass is damaged and can't be used in the fare box,  you can turn it in for a replacement pass at your school's admin office. If you lose your pass ask your school admin's office for a replacement.  Treat your card like cash and keep it in a safe place when not in use.

I DON'T HAVE A STUDENT ID.

All students 7th grade and older must present a student ID to the driver in order to use the student pass.  If you do not have a student photo ID, you can get one taken at our offices at 1830 Golden State Ave., or at our Downtown Transit Center on Chester Ave.  You will need to bring proof of enrollment in the Spring Semester or Quarter, like your school schedule.
