Golden Empire Transit Extending FREE Rides for Students Through May 2024
Bakersfield, CA —Golden Empire Transit District (GET) will extend FREE rides for all Bakersfield students Kindergarten through College including vocational schools and private high schools that currently have passes from the Fall Semester. Golden Empire Transit received a grant to provide the FREE bus rides to Bakersfield area students from January 2023 – through May 2024. The Free passes are good for GET Bus Fixed route buses and On-Demand Paratransit only. It was reported earlier from another source that On-Demand Micro transit is included in the free rides but this is untrue. The free rides are good for all students on Fixed Route and Para Transit. Students that have a Spring 2023 pass should keep it. This pass will be good through the start of school and until new passes are delivered to your school district which we expect to be by mid- September 2023. All students 7th grade and older must show their student ID on the bus to the driver when presenting the pass. Once the new passes are delivered to you school pick up your pass at your school office and you will beginning swiping the fare box again. If you have lost your pass, to obtain a new one you can present your student ID at the GET Administration Office, 1830 Golden State Avenue or the Downtown Transit Station on Chester Avenue to receive a replacement.
