Change of Location for GET Board Meetings

Bakersfield, California, September 5, 2024: Golden Empire Transit District (GET) will be relocating its Board of Directors Meetings to the Kern Council of Governments (Kern COG) in the Kress Building boardroom, located at 1401 19th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301. The first meeting at this new venue is scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. These meetings occur on the third Tuesday of each month and are open to the public. For additional details, visit getbus.org or call 869-2GET (2438).

The District’s Board of Directors recently elected to relocate to a more suitable venue. While the current modular building was functional for seven years, its space and amenities were limited. The move to Kern COG’s boardroom represents a significant upgrade, providing not only increased capacity but also improved safety features and a design specifically suited for board meetings. This transition is anticipated to enhance both the overall meeting experience and functionality.

For GET riders who prefer to attend meetings in person, the new location is situated near GET’s downtown transit center at Chester Avenue and 20th Street. For those who prefer to join remotely, the meeting will be available for online viewing. A Zoom link for each meeting will be posted on the District’s website at getbus.org under About GET > Board of Directors by 1:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Attendees will be able to view the meeting and all presentations but will not have the option to participate.

The Golden Empire Transit District, formed in July 1973, is the primary public transportation provider for the Bakersfield Urbanized Area. GET is the largest public transit system within a 110-mile radius. The District’s legal boundary includes Bakersfield city limits as well as adjacent unincorporated areas. GET has a fleet of 81 compressed natural gas buses equipped with wheelchair lifts and bike racks. GET services 16 routes, which operate 7 days a week and transport more than 3.5 million passengers each year on its fixed-route buses. Additionally, GET operates 51 compressed natural gas GET-A-LIFT paratransit buses and 9 Hydrogen Fuel cell buses.
