GET to Hold Public Hearing on Unmet Transit Needs

Bakersfield, California, February 3, 2025: Golden Empire Transit District (GET) will hold a Public Hearing at the Kern Council of Government’s Board Room located at 1401 19th Street, Suite 300 at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. The hearing will focus on receiving public comments and testimony regarding any unmet transit needs that are reasonable to meet in the metropolitan Bakersfield area. GET will review all information presented at the hearing and adopt its findings by resolution.

Individuals wishing to provide testimony on unmet transit needs may attend the hearing in person or submit written comments to Golden Empire Transit District, 1830 Golden State Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301, for inclusion in the official record. Comments may also be emailed to GET’s website at https://getbus.org/board-meeting-zoom-link.

An unmet transit need is defined as any situation in which an individual, regardless of age or physical condition, is unable to use the existing transportation system due to deficiencies. However, requests for minor operational improvements and those improvements already funded and scheduled for the following year will not be considered. For a request to be deemed “reasonable to meet,” it must meet the following criteria: the requested improvement must be safe to operate, and adequate roadways must be available; the proposed service should not duplicate existing transit services; the service must meet the legally required farebox ratio, with fares comparable to similar services.

Golden Empire Transit District (GET), established in July 1973, is the primary public transportation provider for the Bakersfield Urbanized Area and the largest transit system within a 110-mile radius. GET serves Bakersfield city limits and adjacent unincorporated areas with a fleet of 81 compressed natural gas buses, all equipped with wheelchair lifts and bike racks. The District operates 16 routes daily, transporting over 3.5 million passengers annually. GET also runs 49 GET-A-LIFT paratransit buses and 9 hydrogen fuel cell buses.
