GET to Hold Public Hearing on Proposed Service Changes

Bakersfield, California: The Golden Empire Transit District (GET) Board of Directors will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. at the Kress Building Boardroom, located at 1401 19th Street, to hear public comments on proposed service changes to improve weekday frequencies on two key routes:

The proposed weekday transit service is outlined below. These changes are proposed to begin January 2025. Changes may or may not be fully implemented concurrently.

ROUTEDESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED WEEKDAY TRANSIT SERVICE IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19
22Trips to operate every 15 minutes during peak periods. Route 22 operates from North Chester Avenue to California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB).
81Trips to operate every 30 minutes. Route 81 operates from Valley Plaza to Downtown and Bakersfield College.

How to Participate:

  • In-Person: Attend the public hearing at the Kress Building Boardroom
  •  Online: Those unable to attend in person may view the hearing via Zoom at getbus.org/board-meeting-zoom-link on the day of the hearing.
  •  Written Comments: Written comments may be submitted in person or by mail to GET’s offices at 1830 Golden State Avenue no later than 1:00 p.m. on the day of the hearing. Additionally, digital comments can be submitted at getbus.org/boardcomments.

Golden Empire Transit District, formed in July 1973, is the primary public transportation provider for the Bakersfield Urbanized Area. GET is the largest public transit system within a 110-mile radius. The District’s legal boundary includes Bakersfield city limits as well as adjacent unincorporated areas. GET has a fleet of 81 compressed natural gas buses equipped with wheelchair lifts and bike racks. GET services 16 routes, which operate 7 days a week and transport more than 3.5 million passengers each year on its fixed-route buses. Additionally, GET operates 49 compressed natural gas GET-A-LIFT paratransit buses and 9 Hydrogen Fuel cell buses.
