Golden Empire Transit Providing FREE Rides for Students
Starting January 2023
Bakersfield, CA —Golden Empire Transit District (GET) will provide FREE rides for all Bakersfield students Kindergarten through College including vocational schools and private high schools. Golden Empire Transit received a grant to provide the FREE bus rides to Bakersfield area students starting January 2023 – May 2023. The Free passes are good for GET Bus Fixed route buses and On-Demand Paratransit only. On-Demand Microtransit is not included in the FREE rides.
Students will be able to pick up their free GET Bus pass at their school administrative offices starting January 2023 when school resumes after the Winter break. All students 7th grade and older must show their student ID on the bus to the driver when presenting the pass. The pass will swipe through the fare box like a regular bus pass.
If you do not have a student ID you can present proof of your student status (example – student schedule from your school) to the GET Administration Office, 1830 Golden State Avenue or the Downtown Transit Station on Chester Avenue to receive a student ID to ride the bus.
